Director Hansal Mehta has also vented his anger. He questioned the Film Federation of India and took a dig at its strike rate. A lot of reactions are also coming from users.

This year, Kiran Rao‘s ‘Laapata Ladies‘ was sent from India for the Oscars in the Best International Feature category. But this film was out of the Oscars race. While users vented their anger on the Film Federation of India (FFI), filmmaker Hansal Mehta took a dig at its ‘strike rate’.

Hansal Mehta targeted FFI and raised questions over ‘Laapata Ladies‘ being out of the Oscar 2025 race. He criticized the Film Federation of India’s selection of the film year after year.

Missing Ladies makers admit being disappointment

The makers of Missing Ladies said, “This year Missing Ladies did not make it to the Academy Awards shortlist and we are of course disappointed, but at the same time we are extremely grateful for the incredible support and faith we have received throughout this journey.

Directed by Kiran Rao and produced by Rao, Aamir Khan and Jyoti Deshpande, Missing Ladies tells the story of two young newlywed brides who get transformed during a train ride to their husband’s house.

Fans as well as filmmaker Hansal Mehta and Grammy winner Ricky Tej criticised the Film Federation of India after Kiran Rao’s Missing Ladies was ruled out of the Oscars 2025 race.

Several social media users also expressed their disappointment at Missing Ladies failing to make it to the Oscars 2025 shortlist and suggested that Payal Kapadia’s All We Imagine As Light should have been India’s official entry to the Oscars 2025.

Hansal Mehta took a dig at FFI and raised questions

Hansal Mehta shared the list of 15 films on his handle, which have been selected in the Best International Feature Film category at the 97th Academy Awards. Unfortunately, ‘Missing Ladies’ is not a part of these 15 shortlisted films.

On this, Hansal Mehta took a dig and wrote, ‘Film Federation of India has done it once again. Their strike rate and selection of films year after year is amazing.’

Users are also angry, one said – Indian films missing

Hansal Mehta’s post is getting a lot of comments from users. One user has written, ‘The jury should be ashamed of itself. Who will be accountable now?’ Another comment is, ‘Indian films missing.’

Ricky Cage is also angry – Sending ‘Missing Ladies’ was a wrong decision

Grammy Award winning music composer Ricky Cage also reacted to ‘Missing Ladies’ being out of the Oscar race. He wrote in a long post on  that ‘Laapta Ladies‘ is a very entertaining film, which has been made well.

But the decision to send it to the Oscars on behalf of India was not right. Ricky Kej said that year after year we are sending the wrong films to the Oscars. Sadly, we are still living in the world of mainstream Bollywood.

Cast of ‘Laapta Ladies’

Laapta Ladies‘ was directed by Kiran Rao, while Aamir Khan was the producer. The film had many actors like Pratibha Ranta, Nitanshi Goyal, Sparsh Srivastava and Ravi Kishan.
