Mumbai Police Issues Traffic Advisory Ahead of New Year Eve 2024 Celebrations in Bandra

With the excitement surrounding the New Year Eve celebrations in Mumbai, the Mumbai Police have issued a detailed traffic advisory to manage the anticipated traffic congestion, especially in Bandra West. As the city gears up for one of the most awaited nights of the year, authorities are urging motorists to take precautionary measures and plan alternate routes to avoid inconvenience.

In a notification issued on Saturday, the Mumbai Traffic Police highlighted the specific areas where heavy traffic congestion is expected due to the festivities. With events planned at Bandra Reclamation, K.C. Road, and Carter Road, significant traffic delays are anticipated along these key roads. The advisory, issued by Samadhan Pawar, Deputy Commissioner of Police, HQ & Central Traffic, emphasizes the importance of adjusting vehicular movement in order to ensure a smooth flow of traffic and prevent any unnecessary hindrances to public safety.

Key Traffic Changes and Restrictions

The temporary traffic arrangements will be in effect from 3:00 PM on December 22, 2024, until January 5, 2025, 24:00 hours. These arrangements are crucial to avoid any potential hazards that might arise from overcrowding and ensure smooth movement of vehicles.

No Parking Zones:
One of the significant changes for motorists is the restriction on parking. The Mumbai Police have explicitly prohibited the parking of all types of vehicles on Carter Road, both on the north and south bounds, from Otters Club to Café Coffee Day. Similarly, parking will also be restricted along K.C. Marg, from Reclamation Best Bus Depot to MSRDC. These measures are designed to prevent any obstruction to the already congested roads and ensure that emergency services have unimpeded access to these key areas.

Alternate Routes for Smooth Traffic Flow:
For motorists heading towards MSRDC, a revised traffic pattern has been announced. Vehicles that would traditionally take a left turn from Reclamation Road towards Zenda Point will be directed to go straight ahead, take a U-turn before the Toll Plaza, and then proceed on the northbound lane. This will ensure that the traffic remains dispersed and prevents a build-up in specific sections of the roads.

No Entry Zones:
The advisory also introduces some ‘no-entry’ zones to further mitigate the risk of bottlenecks. Reclamation Road, southbound from Zenda Point, will be a no-entry zone for vehicles taking a left turn towards MSRDC. This measure aims to direct traffic flow away from high-traffic areas and prevent any accidental crowding or accidents.

With the expected increase in pedestrian traffic, particularly near the iconic sea-facing stretches, motorists are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and avoid these areas if possible.
