Mufasa: The Lion King Box Office Collection Day 6, Earned 14.25 Crores

Day 6 box office receipts for “Mufasa: The Lion King“: Disney’s live-action movie ‘Mufasa: The Lion King’ has been dominating the box office, much like a lion does in the jungle.

The film made ₹13.65 crore on Day 6, bringing its total earnings for its first week to ₹67.25 crore.

According to industry tracker Sacnilk.com, the Hindi and English versions of the movie brought in ₹4.7 and ₹4.4 crore, respectively.
Mufasa: The Lion King, directed by Barry Jenkins, did well, especially on Christmas Day, when it had high occupancy rates of 63.06 percent in English, 51.62 percent in Hindi, and 60.33 percent in Tamil.

It’s actually rather easy to see how Mufasa: The Lion King establishes some of the most recognizable characters and settings from The Lion King. Rafiki’s story, which receives a substantial portion of the film, is exploited to great effect.

Many aspects in this film are made more relatable by the fact that Rafiki was also a stray in his tribe and that this causes him to view everyone, including the evil ones, with empathy. Rafiki’s upbeat outlook on life itself seems like a logical feel-good bundle to the alienated. Seeing a visual extravaganza movie with children as its primary target audience and choosing to utilize romance as a means of generating conflict was truly intriguing.

Mufasa: The Lion King

The main character of Mufasa: The Lion King is a lion cub who is lost in a flood and sets out on a journey of self-discovery that ultimately brings him to prominence. Taka (Meiyang Chang), a royal cub, saves Mufasa and incorporates him into his pride. When Mufasa kills an invading lion, tensions grow. In search of retribution, the Outsiders, under Kiros’ leadership, send Mufasa and Taka on a quest for refuge in the legendary country of Milele. In a decisive battle, Mufasa beats Kiros and his pride in spite of Taka’s betrayal and jealously. Ultimately, Mufasa ascends Pride Rock and assumes the throne.

Mufasa was voiced by Aaron Pierre, while Taka was voiced by Kelvin Harrison Jr. John Kani provides Rafiki with the voice of an experienced storyteller. Mads Mikkelsen has done a pretty good job of lending his voice to the powerful antagonist Kairos, a white lion.

The release of Mufasa: The Lion King

The release of Mufasa: The Lion King in India has been an unexpected triumph, exhibiting exceptional box office resilience and drawing in a strong audience across diverse linguistic markets. According to Sacnilk, the film’s performance on Christmas Day was particularly remarkable, with occupancy rates reaching 63.06% in English, 51.62% in Hindi, and 60.33% in Tamil, signaling the film’s widespread appeal. As of its first five days in theaters, Mufasa has already amassed approximately ₹64 crore in India (including 3D charges), and with strong pre-sales and a surge in Christmas collections, the film is on track to cross the ₹100 crore mark by the upcoming Saturday.

In terms of box office milestones, Mufasa: The Lion King is set to become the third Hollywood film of 2024 to join the ₹100 crore club in India, following Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire (₹134+ crore) and Deadpool & Wolverine (₹169+ crore). This marks a significant achievement for the film, especially in a competitive year.

Globally, the film has continued to charm audiences, bolstered by a stellar English voice cast, including Aaron Pierre, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Donald Glover, Beyoncé, and John Kani. However, in India, the emotional appeal is further amplified by the presence of iconic voices such as Shah Rukh Khan and Mahesh Babu, who lend their voices in the Hindi and Telugu versions, respectively. Their star power has added a distinct charm, elevating the film’s appeal in the Indian market.

An interesting note in the film’s performance is how Mufasa outpaced Baby John on its sixth day. Mufasa earned approximately ₹15 crore on Christmas Day, surpassing Baby John‘s ₹12.50 crore opening day collections, despite being released a day later. This highlights the film’s growing momentum and the strength of its wide release.

Here’s a breakdown of the major films that made waves at the box office on Christmas 2024:

  1. Pushpa 2: The Rule (Day 21) – ₹20 crore
  2. Mufasa: The Lion King (Day 6) – ₹15 crore
  3. Baby John (Day 1) – ₹12.50 crore (Hindi-language only)
  4. Max (Day 1) – ₹8.50 crore (Kannada-language only)
  5. Barroz (Day 1) – ₹3.65 crore
  6. Marco (Day 6) – ₹3.50 crore (Malayalam and Hindi dubbed)
  7. Viduthalai Part 2 (Day 6) – ₹2.85 crore (Tamil and Telugu dubbed)
  8. Ui the Movie (Day 6) – ₹2.24 crore
  9. Vanvaas (Day 6) – ₹20 lakh (Hindi-language only)

What’s particularly interesting is the comparison to Theri, the Tamil original of Baby John. When Theri was released back in 2016, it had a significantly stronger opening, earning around ₹19 crore on its first day—showing how much audience preferences and market dynamics have evolved over the years.

Mufasa: The Lion King is poised to make a lasting impact at the Indian box office, thanks to a mix of strong star power, cross-linguistic appeal, and a deep emotional connection with audiences. As it nears the ₹100 crore mark, the film’s success further cements Hollywood’s growing influence in India’s vibrant movie landscape.
