Baby John Box Office Collection Day 3: Varun Dhawan‘s recent film Baby John took a blazing start on Christmas with a double-digit opening day, raising hopes of a blockbuster. But, in a disappointing development, the film’s box office fortunes have taken a hit, with collections dropping for the third consecutive day.
Box Office Report
The film grossed ₹19.65 crore (nett). As per reports, the action thriller is underperforming at the box office for the third consecutive day.
On the opening day, December 25, the film earned ₹11.25 crore. The business witnessed a drop of 57.78 per cent and recorded a business of ₹4.75 crore. The third day continued to show a declining trend and grossed Rs 3.65 crore, taking the total collection to Rs 19.65 crore (nett).
The film garnered a total occupancy of 9.62 per cent in Hindi on Friday. His 2019 release Kalank, which also starred Alia Bhatt, Madhuri Dixit, Sanjay Dutt, Aditya Roy Kapur, and Sonakshi Sinha, earned Rs 21.60 crore on its first day.
Varun’s last theatrical releases including Street Dancer 3D (2020), Jug Jugg Jeeyo (2022), and Bhediya (2022) failed to reach double-digit numbers on opening. However, the film failed to maintain its momentum amid stiff competition from Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2: The Rule.
The 3-day total of Varun Dhawan and Keerthy Suresh’s film will now be between 20.13-20.63 crores. Saturday and Sunday will now decide the fate at the Indian box office.
Budget vs Box Office Collection
Given the current momentum, it seems almost impossible for the action thriller to recover its budget. The current estimate is 75 crores, which is less than 50% of the cost spent.
Loss due to tough competition
There is a split in the screen count as Baby John is facing competition from Pushpa 2 and Mufasa: The Lion King at the Indian box office. The Kalees-directed film is currently running on 2500-3000 screens.
Mufasa: The Lion King is currently showing on fewer screens but is earning better than the Varun Dhawan film. Given the tough competition and weak content, a revival looks difficult at this stage.
About the film
The action thriller is directed by Kalees and produced by Jawaan-fame Atlee. It is the story of a cop who goes into hiding to raise his daughter in a safe environment.
However, he is forced to confront his past when his life is threatened. The film, which is a remake of Theri starring Vijay in the lead, received mixed reviews.
According to a Hindustan Times review, the film “starts off on a very shabby note, and there’s not a soul in sight for almost 40 minutes”. It’s worth a watch if you can listen to the boring songs and the first half-hour of awful visuals. How many times will you do that, brother?”
