“Indian Railways Unveils 98 Special Trains for Mahakumbh Mela 2025 to Facilitate Pilgrims to Prayagraj”

Indian Railways has introduced 98 special trains to ensure smooth travel for devotees attending the Mahakumbh Mela in 2025, which will take place from January 14 to January 29. These trains are designed to improve passenger comfort, hygiene, and the functionality of electric appliances, addressing common travel issues during the event. Ajay Solanki, the Public Relations Officer for the Ahmedabad Division, confirmed that RPF teams have been stationed at key stations for passenger guidance and security.

To manage the heavy travel demand during the Mela, Indian Railways is launching an extensive operation. A combination of 10,000 regular trains and 3,000 special services will run over the course of the event. This includes 700 long-distance Kumbh Mela Express trains and 1,800 short-distance trains, covering routes of 200-300 kilometers. Additionally, the “Ring Rail” service will offer pilgrims a circular route connecting sacred sites like Chitrakoot, Banaras, Ayodhya, and Prayagraj, beginning and ending at Prayagraj.

The North Eastern Railway (NER) is also enhancing the journey experience with 80 specially designed Mahakumbh-themed coaches. These vibrant and visually captivating coaches will be part of special trains, aimed at providing a unique travel experience for the pilgrims.

Special Trains for Key Regions

  1. Bengaluru to Prayagraj: South Western Railway (SWR) is operating a special one-way Kumbh Mela Express that departed Bengaluru on January 8 and will reach Prayagraj by January 10. This train will stop at major stations like Whitefield, Bangarapet, Katpadi, and Vijayawada. It includes 20 coaches, such as general second class, sleeper, and luggage vans.
  2. Himachal Pradesh to Prayagraj: Special trains from Una to Prayagraj will start operating on January 17, 2025. The first train (04528) departs at 10:05 PM and reaches Prayagraj at 6:00 PM the next day, featuring sleeper, general, and AC three-tier coaches.
  3. Jaynagar to Jhusi: NER will operate special trains for pilgrims from Jaynagar to Prayagraj. The train (05285/05286) will make trips on January 10, 24, 31, February 1, and March 1, stopping at major stations like Madhubani, Darbhanga, Muzaffarpur, and Varanasi.
  4. Guntur to Azamgarh and Moula Ali to Gaya: will begin on January 18, 2025. These services will run on specific dates such as January 18, 20, and 24, ensuring that pilgrims from southern and eastern regions can travel comfortably.

Special Train Schedule by South Central Railway (Indian Railways)

South Central Railway (SCR) is running 16 special trains during the 45-day festival, connecting various locations to the Mahakumbh Mela. Here are some of the key routes and departure times:

  • Train 7701: Guntur to Azamgarh departs on January 24 at 11:00 PM and arrives at 5:15 PM the next day.
  • Train 7702: Returns from Azamgarh to Guntur on January 26, departing at 7:45 PM and arriving at 9:00 AM the next day.
  • Train 7707: Moula Ali to Azamgarh on January 18, and February 21, departs at 11:55 PM, reaching Azamgarh by 5:15 PM.
  • Train 7708: Returns from Azamgarh to Moula Ali on January 20 and February 23, departing at 7:45 PM and reaching at 7:30 AM the next day.
  • Train 7711: Moula Ali to Gaya on January 19, departing at 5:50 PM and arriving at 9:00 AM the following day.
  • Train 7712: Returns from Gaya to Moula Ali on January 21.
  • Train 7729: Departs from Moula Ali to Gaya on January 22, and Train 7730 returns on January 24.
  • Train 7719: Guntur to Gaya on January 25, departs at 2:20 PM and arrives at 9:00 AM the next day.
  • Train 7720: Returns from Gaya to Guntur on January 27, departing at 2:15 PM and arriving at 4:00 AM.
  • Train 7721: Nanded to Patna on January 22, departs at 11:00 PM and arrives at 10:30 AM the next day.
  • Train 7722: Returns from Patna to Nanded on January 24, departing at 3:30 PM and arriving at 4:30 AM the next day.
  • Train 7725: Kacheguda to Patna on January 25, departs at 4:45 PM and arrives at 10:30 AM the next day.
  • Train 7726: Returns from Patna to Kacheguda on January 27, departing at 11:30 AM and arriving at 7:00 AM the next day.

These special trains aim to make travel convenient and efficient for pilgrims during the Mahakumbh Mela, ensuring a safe and comfortable journey.
