In 2022, Ghose and his team were filming Parikrama, a movie based on Sergio Scapagnini’s The Story of Lala, at the historic Ahilya Devi Maheshwar Fort. Monalisa, who was selling beads to the visitors at the fort, stood out among the crowd of onlookers. Ghose recalls spotting her observing the filming with keen interest. It was not long before his daughter, Anandi Ghose, noticed the young girl as well. Concerned for her well-being, Anandi sent her father a photograph of Monalisa and mentioned how the girl was being relentlessly pursued by some inappropriate men.

“My daughter was genuinely worried about her. She had seen the girl several times around the set and felt uncomfortable with the way certain men were treating her,” Ghose recalls. With his daughter’s urging, Ghose took note of the situation and was determined to ensure that Monalisa’s well-being was protected.

Sanjeet Chowdhury, the associate director and photographer accompanying Ghose’s unit at the time, also remembers the encounter vividly. He had been assisting Ghose during the shoot and first saw Monalisa in the midst of the large crowd of onlookers. Her striking beauty and captivating eyes immediately caught his attention. Chowdhury, who had always been passionate about photography, decided to approach her. “She stood out even amidst the bustle of the crowd,” he recalls. Despite the chaos of the ongoing shoot, Chowdhury found a moment during lunch to ask Monalisa if she would be willing to pose for a photoshoot.

Unfortunately, just as he was about to take the photos with his film camera, it broke down. However, not wanting to miss the opportunity, Chowdhury decided to take her photos with his mobile phone. “Her natural beauty made her the perfect subject for the shoot. I asked her name, and she told me it was Monalisa,” Chowdhury recalls with a smile.

What happened next was nothing short of remarkable. Chowdhury posted a few of the photographs he had taken on his social media accounts. Within days, the photos garnered widespread attention, with people across the world sharing and commenting on her striking appearance. These images eventually made their way to Monalisa, who was astounded by the attention she was receiving.
